What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy healing therapy with Japanese origins.  The word Reiki originates from the Japanese word Rei, which means “Universal Life”, and Ki, which means “Energy.”  Reiki is not associated with any religion or any particular religious beliefs.  It is not a massage, nor is it placebo.  It is a subtle but effective form of spiritually guided life force healing.

Reiki works holistically on the whole body, mind, and soul. It is most commonly used to ease pain, anxiety, fatigue, and depression. However, the belief is that the body, in its natural state, can heal any ailment, so the applications, theoretically, are endless.

Reiki Is Love

Reiki is love in its purest form. Only positive effects can result from a Reiki session, as Reiki is pure, loving energy.

What to Expect from a Reiki Treatment

To begin, you are welcome to share with me any issues you have been experiencing, physically, emotionally, mentally, or spiritually, before or during the session.  This is not necessary, but it can assist in guiding the energy healing.

Sessions generally last about an hour. Remaining fully clothed, you will lay down on the treatment table.  Healing, soothing music will be playing, and pillows, props, and blankets are available to make you as comfortable as possible.

Reiki healing will begin at your head, and I will use various hand positions as I move down your body.  Hand placement may be on your body, or raised above.  You will not be touched inappropriately, and you may always let me know if you are uncomfortable with hands on treatment in any particular body areas.

People are all different, and their experiences and sensations during a reiki treatment will vary. The most common experience during a reiki treatment is a release of stress and a deep feeling of relaxation. Reiki effects are cumulative. If you don’t notice much during your first session, you will likely have progressively deeper experiences if you continue.

During the treatment you may feel sensations of energy such as warmth from my hands, tingling, rushing, rippling, pressure, heaviness, or lightness. You may see colours, lights, or images behind your closed eyes. Or you may not feel anything but sleepy - that’s okay! Reiki is working in you whether you feel it or not.

The Chakras

Reiki works with the Chakra system. Chakras are the main energy centres in the body, running from the very base of the spine up through the crown of the head.  Each chakra corresponds to a major organ or glandular system in the body.  Our chakras govern our bodies mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.  Each chakra works in harmony with the others, so an imbalance in one area can cause a disturbance in your body that will grow over time.

In Reiki we work with balancing the flow of energy in each chakra, and clearing any disturbances in the flow of energy through your body.

Reiki is a blessing:

An instantaneously-conferred “sacred potential” for healing, protection, and spiritual development.
